Cllr James Dornan£128,000 redundancy deal for top executives

102 top executives at Glasgow Council are set to receive an average payout of £128,000 each as part of Glasgow’s £127 million redundancy deal.

Internal figures revealed by the SNP show Glasgow Labour bosses are paying out millions to top execs  in redundancy and early retirement at the same time as they are calling for higher council tax payments across the city.

Nicola Sturgeon MSPDeputy First Minister in fundraising run

Nicola Sturgeon, MSP for Govan, has opened up her local constituency office as a drop off point for relief supplies to aid the victims of the Pakistan floods.

Ms Sturgeon will also be running the 10k at this Sunday’s Great Scottish Run in Glasgow with members of Awaz FM - a community radio station in the city - in order to raise money for flood victims in Pakistan.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) are transporting aid boxes from Glasgow, and other UK destinations, for free to those in Pakistan who have been devastated by the recent floods.

Glasgow must not miss out on share of Safer Streets funding, says McLaughlin

Anne McLaughlin MSPAnne McLaughlin, SNP MSP for the Glasgow region, has called on Glasgow City Council to make sure the city does not miss out on its share of £400,000 being made available by the Scottish Government to improve public safety. The Safer Streets funding is used by local authorities to support community safety initiatives including high visibility police patrols in 'hot spot' areas, targeting of street drinkers and late night taxi marshals. Previous funding has been used in Glasgow for high visibility police patrols; a static first aid post in the City Centre and improved CCTV coverage.

Clydebridge expansion points to bright future for Cambuslang steelworks

Bob Doris and Clare McColl pictured with some of the staff and management they met at the Clydebridge SteelworksFollowing the announcement that Corus are to invest £8 million in their steelwork sites at Motherwell and Cambuslang, SNP MSP Bob Doris and local SNP Councillor for Cambuslang, Clare McColl, visited the site on Friday of last week  (Friday 27 August)  to see the expansion plans for themselves. The firm have announced the creation of 49 jobs at Clydebridge with further jobs anticipated as steel demand increases over the next few years.

Sandra White MSPSandra White MSP for the Glasgow Region has today written to Glasgow's new Leader asking him to consider the proposal of a lasting memory of Glasgow's first Poet Laurate and Scotland's own Makar, the late Edwin Morgan, who passed away on the 19 August 2010, aged 90.

Morgan who was considered to be one of Scotland's greatest poets studied and lectured for a large part of his life at Glasgow University and many of his works reflected his experiences of and thoughts upon Glasgow at the time.

Council ChamberFollowing the lack of response by Labour's Leadership over calls for an investigation into Glasgow Labour, Glasgow SNP Leader of the Opposition Councillor James Dornan said: "After months of revelations and a distinct lack of action, I wrote to Labour Leaders in Scotland - Iain Gray MSP, Jim Murphy MP and the Secretary of the Labour Party in Scotland- calling on them to instigate an investigation into Glasgow Labour.

"After two weeks I am still waiting for an acknowledgement never mind a full response.  Murphy, Gray and co. should recognise that hiding behind a 'wall of silence' will not do anything to deal with Labour's problems in Glasgow, nor see a change in the way this city is run.
