Today will see new representatives elected to both the Scottish and Westminster Parliaments, to represent Glasgow Anniesland Constituency. The Scottish National Party believes it is time for Scotland to become a normal sovereign state, with equal status to others. The British State has been a failure for the Scottish people, and has resulted in us being separated from playing our part in Europe and the world. We hope you will support us in our campaign for Scottish Independence.
The best Government for Scotland can only come from Self-Government for Scotland.
The
SNP is a democratic left-of-centre political party committed to Scottish
Independence. It aims to create a just, caring society in the mainstream
of modern Europe by releasing Scotland's full potential as an Independent
Nation. |

Your SNP team for Anniesland
The SNP is fielding candidates in both by-elections. Tom Chalmers will fight for his place in the Scottish Parliament, while Grant Thoms will contest the Westminster seat. |
There will be two ballot papers - white for the Westminster by-election and lilac coloured for the Scottish Parliament. This looks like a very close-run contest, so every vote will count. You don't need your polling card to vote. If you've forgotten your card just tell the staff your name and address. Call 954 7747 if you need a lift to the polling station. Whatever you do today, please remember to vote for Tom Chalmers and Grant Thoms!

36 hour drive for victory: Labour campaign in disarray
Voters face a straightforward choice in this campaign, they can vote for more failure and let-down from London Labour or for two strong voices to speak up for Anniesland and Scotland at Holyrood and Westminster.
Pensioners in Glasgow are being left in the cold because of Labour’s ill-advised mass stock transfer proposal, when they should be getting heating installed from April like the rest of Scotland’s pensioners. The delay in the ballot for Glasgow housing stock transfer means pensioners could have to wait several years to benefit.
Dennis Canavan
has withdrawn his application to rejoin the Labour Party and is resigning
from the House of Commons.
John Swinney MSP MP said: “This shock development leaves the Labour Party
in a state of total disarray, lurching from one crisis to the next. It is
an abject humiliation for Henry McLeish and the Labour leadership."
SNP victories on Thursday will sweep away the obstacles put up by Labour in London to funding the personal care costs of elderly people, as recommended by the Sutherland Report.
The SNP have issued a strong challenge to the Chancellor Gordon Brown to say where he stands on this vital issue, on the day that he is visiting the constituency.
John Swinney
MSP MP spent the last Saturday of campaigning in Anniesland.
“The SNP
are catching up on Labour fast, and are fighting to win these by-elections
for the people of Anniesland and Scotland."
John Swinney MSP MP has attacked Labours health record in Glasgow, revealing that NHS waiting list figures in the City increased by 9 per cent from September 1999 to September 2000 - to 13,684 - and were well above the levels at the time Labour came to power.
The SNP have challenged Labours candidates in Anniesland to state clearly and unequivocally where they stand on air traffic privatisation. Shadow Transport & Environment Minister Mr Bruce Crawford MSP said:
The Anniesland constituency lies under the Glasgow Airport flight path, which makes London Labours foolhardy plans to sell off the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) - effectively privatising the system - an important by-election issue. The UK would be the only country in the world to operate a privatised air traffic control system."

New Labour Fails Scotland

Standing up for Scotland. That's what the SNP do best, and why more and more of us are choosing to vote SNP. New Labour promised us the earth, but failed to deliver. The SNP has always delivered for Scotland. We will deliver for Anniesland too. Grant Thoms and Tom Chalmers make a great team. They'll put Scotland first and make your voice heard.
