November 23rd saw new representatives elected to both the Scottish and Westminster Parliaments, to represent Glasgow Anniesland Constituency. The Scottish National Party believes it is time for Scotland to become a normal sovereign state, with equal status to others. The British State has been a failure for the Scottish people, and has resulted in us being separated from playing our part in Europe and the world. We hope you will support us in our campaign for Scottish Independence.
The best Government for Scotland can only come from Self-Government for Scotland.
The
SNP is a democratic left-of-centre political party committed to Scottish
Independence. It aims to create a just, caring society in the mainstream
of modern Europe by releasing Scotland's full potential as an Independent
Nation. |
8% swing to SNP
Scottish New Labour held both the Holyrood and Westminster seats in the by-elections, but with severely reduced majorities. Labour's previous 15,154 Westminster majority was reduced to a mere 6337, while their 10,993 majority for Holyrood was reduced to 5376.

SNP leader John Swinney MSP MP said:
"The SNP made clear progress in Anniesland, in by-election contests that no-one would have wished for.
"In what is Labour's safest Scottish Parliament seat in the whole country, the SNP vote moved forward, and Labour fell back.
"The swing achieved would result in the SNP moving ahead of Labour in voting intentions for the Scottish Parliament - and would see at least 13 Labour first-past-the-post Holyrood seats fall to the SNP, and three additional Westminster seats won by the SNP.
"In each and every electoral contest, the SNP are moving forward, and that was clearly achieved in Anniesland.
"Labour can have no grounds for complacency when their majority was halved for Holyrood, and more than halved for Westminster, in what was their safest seat in Scotland last May.
"We now look forward to winning in what will be the very different circumstances of the Falkirk West by-election."
