SNP Westminster candidate for Glasgow Central, Osama Saeed, has welcomed the Scottish Government’s announcement of £1.25bn of investment in schools which included cash for a new primary at Glendale Primary in Pollokshields.
The Scottish Government has given the go-ahead to 21 new primary school building projects across Scotland in addition to 14 secondary schools announced in September. The money will place over 12,000 pupils in modern classrooms.
Commenting, Osama Saeed said: “This is fantastic news for Pollokshields. These state-of-the-art class rooms and brand new facilities will make a real difference to the local community.
“In 2007, 260,000 Scottish pupils were in poor or bad conditioned schools. This is totally unacceptable. That’s why the SNP Scottish Government made investing in schools a priority and our investment is paying off. In two and half years, that number has fallen by 100,000.
“And it’s not only Pollokshields' kids that are set to benefit from this cash injection. It’s also going to provide a real boost for local construction companies.
“It’s really good news to see education in Glasgow taking a prominent position even during difficult economic times. It goes to show the importance the SNP is placing on building a better future for Scotland’s children and the difference the SNP can make in areas like Glasgow."
