Osama Saeed is one of Scotland’s foremost peace activists and human rights campaigners.
Osama has been listed as one of Scotland’s Top 100 thinkers and opinion formers by the Scotsman newspaper, one of the country’s “Brightest and Best” by the Sunday Herald, and has been described as Scotland’s most influential Muslim by the Sunday Times.
He is a prominent media commentator and has appeared on BBC, SKY, CNN, Al-Jazeera and others. He has had articles published in the Guardian, Sunday Herald, Daily Mail and Scotsman newspapers. His blog, “Rolled up Trousers” was named top Scottish political blog in 2007.
He played a central role in the movement against the Iraq war, and spoke at the historic demonstration of February 15th 2003. After the Glasgow Airport terrorist attack in 2007, he organised what is considered the first ever Muslim organised demonstration against Al-Qaeda terrorism anywhere in the world.
Osama was born in Glasgow and has been involved in grassroots community activity since the age of twelve. He wishes to put his talents and experiences towards serving the people of Glasgow. He is an alumnus of the US State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program, and one of the American Society for Muslim Advancement’s ‘Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow’. He is currently CEO of an NGO, and formerly worked for First Minister Alex Salmond.
He joined the SNP in 2003 persuaded that Scotland should take her natural place in the family of independent nations after examining the economic arguments for it. |

One of Scotland's former top cops - the recently retired co-ordinator of anti-terrorism services for Scotland Allan Burnett today backed the SNP at the upcoming election.
Speaking at a campaign event in Glasgow with Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill the former Assistant Chief Constable highlighted SNP support for the police and his support for SNP MPs at Westminster and an independent Scotland.

Glasgow candidates will today join together to launch a petition calling for the high speed rail network to include Glasgow.
Despite Labour promises to build high speed rail as far as Scotland, current plans only take it to Birmingham.
Commenting, SNP candidate for Glasgow East, John Mason, said: "High speed rail to Scotland would revolutionise travel in the UK by offering the best solution to transport problems not only in Scotland but in the UK as a whole.

The SNP candidate for Glasgow Central, Osama Saeed, has welcomed the official start of the general election campaign, although noting that Gordon Brown had no alternative to hearing the judgement of the public now.
He said the election in the constituency was between an SNP MP championing Glasgow, or a Labour MP championing savage cuts in Glasgow's jobs and services.

Osama Saeed, SNP candidate for Glasgow Central, has slammed the UK government announcement on High Speed Rail which has omitted Glasgow.
Transport minister Lord Adonis today announced detailed plans for an HSR line from London to Birmingham with the intention of a “Y shaped” network with one branch to Manchester and the other serving Leeds and Sheffield.

The SNP candidate for Glasgow Central has spoken out on the need for high speed rail connecting Glasgow to London.
The Labour government will be commenting on plans for a high speed rail line from London to Birmingham later this month. The Conservatives meanwhile say they will only commit to one to Leeds.

Osama Saeed, SNP candidate for Glasgow Central, has set up surgeries to help constituents.
The move has come he says due to demand for assistance on a wide variety of issues, and is a sign of how badly people are served by the current Labour MP. Saeed will be doing one surgery each week, while he says he will be able to do more and in more locations if elected.

The SNP’s candidate for Glasgow Central, Osama Saeed, has hit out at Mohammad Sarwar’s record on the Iraq war.
The current Labour MP claimed to oppose the invasion, but voted against an inquiry to investigate it. The comments come as Saeed’s campaign released video footage of veteran antiwar campaigner George Galloway slamming his ex-colleague Sarwar and expressing regret at helping him get elected.
