John joined the SNP in 1964 at the time of the General Election. He was a founder member of Bridgeton Constituency Branch and its first Organiser. He became one of the first SNP councillors in Glasgow, and has continued to campaign for Scottish Independence ever since. He has fought two Westminster elections and several local elections.

John recently stood down as Chairman / Speaker of the Glasgow Parliamentary Debating Association. John's hobbies include reading, especially politics, biographies and history. He likes good food, good wine and good company.

He was a public transport official for over 20 years and understands transport issues from the point of view of both passengers and providers.
