David Hayman winner of the City of Glasgows Gold Medal for his outstanding services to the performing arts has put his weight behind Sandra White the SNP candidate for Glasgow Kelvin. Sandras election headquarters in the heart of Hillhead were officially opened by David on Saturday as Sandra took another step towards winning Kelvin. David is one of Scotlands best known actors and directors having appeared on the big screen in more than 40 movies. He is also the founder of Spirit Aid, the charity set up in 2001 which is dedicated to the children of the world whose lives have been devastated by war, genocide, poverty and abuse. It exists to give them opportunities at home and abroad that they otherwise wouldnt have had.
Mr. Hayman said:
I have long been an admirer of Sandras work. She is tireless in pursuing the inequalities and wrongs in our society"
On local issues such as housing, council tax and crime to the wider humanitarian issues of child poverty and weapons of mass destruction, you couldnt have found a harder working MSP
Its time for Kelvin to elect Sandra and its time for Scotland to take its place again in the world community of nations
A delighted Sandra added:
Its great to have someone of the stature of David backing us to win Kelvin. David is an amazing actor and a great humanitarian"
Like him, a huge part of my life has been devoted to helping tackle poverty. The lack of opportunity here in Glasgow is a national scandal and if re-elected, I will continue my work in helping to build communities that work together for the benefit of everyone. Every child should have the right to the same opportunities as every other and the fact that Glasgow has some of the most deprived areas in Europe while oil sits off our shore is perhaps not the dividend some would have us believe.
"I know Kelvin like the back of my hand and there is no doubt that it hasn't had the representation it deserves"
Its time for a forward looking, confident Scotland and on May 3rd we have a chance to start that process
