Bashir Ahmad has been the SNP councillor for Pollokshileds East since 2003 when he overturned a huge Labour majority to win the seat. In 1995, Bashir was the founder member of Scots Asians for Independence, an organisation that has worked successfully within the Asian community to increase support for the SNP and Independence.

Bashir has been a member of the SNP NEC since 1998.

He is standing for Parliament because he wants to represent his home city of Glasgow and help win Independence for Scotland. He also wants the SNP to send the first Asian MSP to Holyrood.
