Shettleston SNP have recently established their own website. The website is intended to be the online hub for local issues, and to engage in conversation with the people of Shettleston about the prospects of Scottish Independence and the way forward for our country.
The people of Shettleston need no introduction to our 'glorious Union'. It's thanks to the London controlled Labour government that the people of Shettleston have the lowest life expectancy in the whole of Western Europe, it's unacceptable that one in three children live in poverty, and one in four pensioners live in poverty. This is not something to be proud of and we, in the SNP continue to condemn and campaign against these horrendous Unionist inflicted problems. Only with Independence can we eradicate the poverty, and poor housing conditions that so many Shettlestonites live in.
The people of Shettleston, every election are fast realising that the SNP is the party for them and switching their vote from Labour to the SNP. Since 1999, the current Labour MSP, Frank McAveety's vote has fast fallen from 11,078 to just over 7,500. The last Scottish Parliamentary Election saw the vote swing towards the SNP 13.5% which indicates a wind of change in one of the most traditional Labour heartlands of Scotland. With this in mind we at Shettleston SNP, along with Councillor John McLaughlin will continue to campaign for a higher standard of living, socially rented, affordable housing and a healthier, more prosperous Shettleston.
