Your chance to make Europe listen
Monday, 05 February 2007

Scottish National Party Europe Spokesman Alyn Smith MEP is urging young people in Glasgow to take part in a European Youth Parliament online forum.

Mr Smith is one of the online panellists and will answer questions on the site.  His topic is “Are Europe’s leaders listening”.

Commenting on the forum Mr Smith said:

“Are Europe’s leader’s listening? Maybe. Should they listen? Yes. Can you make them listen? Definitely”.

“If you think that leaders such as Tony Blair, Jacques Chirac or Angela Merkel aren’t listening then it’s up to you to make them listen. Democracy is a two way street and there is a responsibility on the public to hold their leaders to account”

“Young people can have a lot of influence if it is used correctly.  Politicians need their votes and so long as that remains the case, they have to listen to what people are saying.  That is a position of real influence and one which should be grabbed with glee”

“As Scotland’s youngest MEP I am particularly keen to hear what our youth are saying and would encourage them to make their voice heard at - www.eyptalk.net/forum”.

“The forum runs until the end of this month so come on Glasgow; let’s hear what you are saying”
