Wendy Alexander's relaunch hits the rocks
Wednesday, 02 April 2008

Apprentice trainingJust days after Labour leader in the Scottish Parliament Wendy Alexander outlined plans to introduce an Apprenticeship Bill to Parliament it has become clear that it is already dead in the water.

Glasgow City Council  have announced  plans to provide apprenticeship schemes next year for everyone who qualifies and today saw the Government's launch of Skills Development Scotland, which will introduce a MA in life sciences whilst dramatically increasing the uptake of existing MAs.

Commenting on the developments Sandra White said: "These announcements are great news for Glasgow and Scotland as a whole and another example of the real benefits the Concordat with Local Government is bringing.

"Despite the scaremongering of Scottish Labour, the increased freedom Councils now have are delivering results which will see young Glaswegians ready to take advantage of the opportunities of Glasgow 2014.

"It seems that Wendy Alexander is stuck in reverse or neutral at best and finds herself so out of touch with what is going on even within her own party. I hope she will seize the opportunity to welcome these announcements and get up to speed with the developments in Scotland over the last twelve months.

"Maybe it is Wendy who should be taking advantage of a Modern Apprenticeship.

"She must now go back to the drawing board and do her homework on whether to introduce a Bill which will not have any chance of succeeding for a few years and one that has already been overtaken by actions not words."
