Local MSP Sandra White has today congratulated the Arches Theatre for receiving a £10,000 grant from the Awards for All scheme.

Awards for All Scotland is supported by Creative Scotland, the Big Lottery Fund and sportscotland and award grants of between £500 and £10,000 to support projects of local groups and charities to encourage art, sport, heritage and community activities as well as promoting education, the environment and health in the local community.

The grant will allow the Arches In collaboration with the Solar Bear’s Deaf Youth Theatre, to create a performance devised and created by young people with hearing impairments. The grant will also fund all necessary equipment such as costumes, a rehearsal venue, musicians costs and a sing-language advisor.

Sandra White, MSP for Glasgow Kelvin, said: “Congratulations to the Arches Theatre on receiving this grant.

“Young adults with hearing impairments sometimes feel socially isolated and as a result can suffer from low self-esteem. Taking part in the project will help them to gain confidence and to improve their social relations and I am grateful that the funding will give them that extra bit of support they need.

“I look forward to seeing how the performance progresses.”
