Sandra and Alyn applaud Glasgow company in European success
Thursday, 08 June 2006
Sandra White, SNP MSP for Glasgow and Alyn Smith MEP have sent their warmest congratulations to the Glasgow based company “Windsave” who have recently won a prestigious European business award. They have become the UK winner of European Environment Business Awards in the product category.  They have designed a compact wind turbine for use in private homes and offices which delivers renewable electricity directly into the mains supply.

The European business awards for the environment, organised by the European Commission, recognise outstanding corporate contributions to sustainable development. Presented every two years, awards are given in four categories: products, processes, management and international cooperation.

Sandra said; "This is great news and shows once again the level of International engineering excellence that Glasgow is renowned for.  Scotland could be the renewables capital of the world and this shows that we have the expertise to deliver right on our own doorstep.  We are in the throes of an energy debate at the moment but we need less noise and more action. Companies like Windsave are showing us the direction in which we should be heading.  I have placed a motion in the Scottish Parliament to highlight their success"

Speaking from Brussels, Alyn Smith MEP for Scotland said; "Congratulations to Windsave for again demonstrating that Scotland is at the forefront of renewable energy technology.  With developments like this in our backyard we should be leading the world in reducing our reliance on carbon based energy.

"The success of companies like Windsave and their inventiveness is one of the reasons the European Energy Commissioner is coming to Scotland in July.  He wants to see what Scotland can contribute to the energy debate.  This award shows we have lots to be proud of, what we need is to make sure we put innovations like this into use all over Scotland."
