230 jobs created with £25m investment in local area

Sandra White, SNP MSP for Glasgow Kelvin has today welcomed the news that popular BBC school drama series, Waterloo Road, is to relocate to Glasgow.

The move will have a major positive impact with 230 jobs expected to be created as a result. Shed Productions, which produces the award winning drama, is currently working alongside Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International to ensure a smooth relocation, as well as identifying filming locations in the West of Scotland.

Welcoming the announcement Sandra White MSP said: "This is great news both in economic and cultural terms for Glasgow, and for Scotland as a whole.

"Basing the award winning show here will give a further boost to our broadcasting and creative industries.

"It is testament to the creative flair and versatility of this great city and highlights the growing reputation of production services we have available here in Scotland.

"Already this week we’ve witnessed the centre of Glasgow being turned into US city for a Hollywood movie and this announcement caps off a fantastic couple of weeks which will undoubtedly boost Scotland’s reputation as hub of creative talent and filming locations.

"This latest announcement will also see significant economic investment with a boost of 230 jobs."

Notes:

Filming of Waterloo Road will start in Scotland from April 2012. Initially, there will be 50 one-hour episodes over two years.
