One stop shop for energy advice
Tuesday, 16 November 2010

electricity meterSandra White SNP MSP has welcomed the one stop shop set up by the Scottish Government to help people save energy and lower their fuel bill s this winter.

Home Energy Scotland offers free stand-by plugs and digital electricity monitors. The first allows users to turn off their electronic appliances via a remote control and the digital electricity monitor shows the user instantly the electrical consumption of devices in their home. The effective use of these two appliances can help to save up to £50 on fuel bills.

Furthermore, a free helpline (0800 512 012) has been set up offering advice on issues ranging from discounted insulation; central heating; help to switch to cheaper tariffs and help to ensure that those eligible are receiving their full benefit support.

Commenting on the initiative  Sandra White said: "Offering free energy saving gadgets helps the population to prepare their homes for the winter and to save energy and money at the same time.

"If anybody is unsure about how to save money on fuel bills or how to prepare for the winter calling the free helpline is an excellent starting point and I urge anyone who is unsure of what they can receive or who just want some advice to call."
