Local MSP Sandra White today congratulated Garnetbank Primary School in Glasgow Kelvin who successfully applied for funding from the Big Lottery Fund’s 2014 Communities programme.
The 2014 Communities programme, which will continue to operate up to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014, is a micro programme offering grants to local groups like sport clubs, community organisations and schools to encourage people to take part or volunteer in sport and physical activity.
Garnetbank Primary School received a £1,110 award which will be used to run after-school multisport sessions and to buy a range of outdoor equipment in order to encourage pupils to be more physically active.
Congratulating Garnetbank Primary School, Sandra White MSP for Glasgow Kelvin said: “I am delighted that Garnetbank has received the award which will help the school to purchase various play equipment like goalposts or dodge balls in order to carry out multisport coaching sessions.
“The after-school activities will not only encourage pupils to be more physically active but will also boost their confidence and improve their physical and mental health.
“The Big Lottery’s 2014 Communities is a fantastic micro grants programme and I am delighted that it will continue to support local groups up to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 and I wish Garnetbank Primary School all the best in the future.”
