Call for end to use of Scottish airports to send American bombs to Israel
Thursday, 27 July 2006

Glasgow MSP Sandra White of the SNP has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament expressing ‘extreme concern’ that Prestwick Airport has been used by the Pentagon as a staging post for the sending of 5,000lb bombs to Israel for use in it’s attacks on southern Lebanon.

Mrs White said “I am astonished that the British Government at Westminster has announced that it didn’t even know that America was using a Scottish airport as a stopping off point in sending these huge bombs to Israel for use in bombing Lebanon. Just how special is this relationship between Blair and Bush?

“These so called smart bombs have already killed innocent men, women and children and now the Americans have soiled our reputation as a civilised country by means of subterfuge. The Scottish people have no wish to be drawn into this dirty war where civilians are seen as ‘collateral damage’ and we must be assured that the American Government are told in no uncertain terms that this use of Scottish airports will not be tolerated.

“The Scottish Parliament must speak up against this abuse of our national sovereignty because it’s very obvious that Westminster has once again failed in it’s duty to represent the views of the Scottish People in the same way as, earlier this year, they allowed America to use Prestwick for rendition flights.”
