Sandra White MSP

Sandra has been active locally and nationally since joining the SNP in 1983, being councillor for Foxbar, Renfrewshire, for ten years before being elected as a Glasgow MSP in 1999. She is a member of the Equal Opportunities Committee and has served as Deputy Shadow Minister for Health and Social Justice and as a Deputy Whip and is a member of the Party’s National Council. Sandra'’s interests in politics are achieving social justice and the regeneration of Glasgow. She is married with three grown up children.

Funding to tackle effects of child abuse welcomed

Sandra WhiteGlasgow Kelvin MSP Sandra White welcomed the announcement that the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) has been awarded over one million pounds by the Big Lottery's Supporting 21st Century Life Grant to run a four year clinical trial of the New Orleans Intervention Model (NIM); which aims to use early and intensive intervention to help those who have experienced child abuse.

The model involves bringing together children, parents and a wide range of professionals to help young abused children between the ages of six months and five years overcome the effects of abuse.

Local MSP highlights fears over rising shop closures

Byres RoadSandra White MSP for Glasgow Kelvin has called for action to be taken to reverse the recent trend which has seen a number of businesses in Glasgow’s West End forced to close.
 
In particular Ms White expressed concern over the continuing disparity between a relatively successful top half of Byres road; whilst the bottom half is seeing increased closures and the fear that this pattern was being repeated in Great Western Road and Sauchihall Street.

New Bill will protect victims and witnesses in Scotland

Criminals will be made to contribute to the cost of providing support to victims under new plans set out in the Victims and Witnesses Bill.

The Bill, published today, proposes a victim surcharge as well as plans for police restitution orders, which will make those who assault police officers pay towards services supporting injured officers.

Police down south £21k worse off compared to Scottish officers

New figures show the damning difference between police pay in Scotland and down south – with new officers starting employment in April onwards in England and Wales being up to £21,730 worse off compared to police officers advancing on the pay scales in Scotland.

Research undertaken by the Scottish Police Federation – in response to a question from SNP MSP Sandra White – revealed the true impact of the implementation by Tory Home Secretary Theresa May of the Winsor Review.
