Sandra White MSP

Sandra has been active locally and nationally since joining the SNP in 1983, being councillor for Foxbar, Renfrewshire, for ten years before being elected as a Glasgow MSP in 1999. She is a member of the Equal Opportunities Committee and has served as Deputy Shadow Minister for Health and Social Justice and as a Deputy Whip and is a member of the Party’s National Council. Sandra'’s interests in politics are achieving social justice and the regeneration of Glasgow. She is married with three grown up children.

Sandra White MSPGlasgow MSP calls for more transparency and democracy

Sandra White MSP for Glasgow has called on University's to take the lead on ensuring that they are properly democratic and accountable in response to concerns voiced by a number of academics over the growing influence of senior management groups; which is leading to decisions being taken without proper scrutiny and consultation.

The fears come on the back of Glasgow university's proposals to press ahead with proposed cuts which will see a huge reduction in modern languages courses; the provision of nursing and adult learning courses; despite widespread opposition and without proper consideration to the damage these proposals would have on the university's international standing.

Sandra White MSPGlasgow MSP welcomes prestigious marketing award

Sandra White, MSP for Glasgow, has today welcomed the announcement that Glasgow City Marketing Bureau has won the UK’s Best Convention Bureau at the 2011 Meetings and Incentive Travel Awards for the fifth time in a row.

Glasgow beat off stiff competition to win the award, which is voted on by over 3,000 meetings industry professionals, triumphing in a shortlist which London, Liverpool and Manchester failed to even make.

Sandra White MSP for the Glasgow Region today voiced her serious concern over the proposed cuts at Glasgow University with the First Minister Alex Salmond.

Speaking at First Minister’s questions Ms White asked the First Minister whether he agreed that the proposals, which would see a huge reduction in the study of modern languages; the provision of nursing courses and adult learning courses, were not in the best interests of the university and Scotland as a whole.

Sandra attending student demonstrationSandra White MSP for the Glasgow Region has spoken out against proposed cuts at Glasgow university put forward by the universities principal and management group. The cuts would see a huge reduction in the study of modern languages; the provision of nursing courses and adult learning courses and have been roundly condemned by academics and students alike.

The universities principal has previously stated that the university must make these cuts in order to proposals have been put forward as part of the universities cost cutting programme that according to Mr Muscatelli need to be carried out or ‘the institution could run out of money by 2013 if they took no action to address cuts in public funding’.
