Sandra White MSP

Sandra has been active locally and nationally since joining the SNP in 1983, being councillor for Foxbar, Renfrewshire, for ten years before being elected as a Glasgow MSP in 1999. She is a member of the Equal Opportunities Committee and has served as Deputy Shadow Minister for Health and Social Justice and as a Deputy Whip and is a member of the Party’s National Council. Sandra'’s interests in politics are achieving social justice and the regeneration of Glasgow. She is married with three grown up children.

Sandra backs publicans in challenge on glass ban

whisky glassSandra White, SNP MSP for Glasgow says that any proposed ban on the use of Glasses in Glasgow pubs would be a step too far. Last December the Glasgow Licensing Board agreed a policy which will effectively ban the use of glass receptacles in Glasgow's pubs and clubs. The Licensing Board acted because of what they saw as an epidemic of glass assaults.  The Scottish Beer and Pub Association moved a petition on the 31st May seeking a judicial review of that decision.

Sandra said: "I honestly think that this is just a step too far.  The intentions of the Licensing Board are clear and well meaning however we are in danger of regulating ourselves to death.

Sandra and Alyn applaud Glasgow company in European success

Sandra White, SNP MSP for Glasgow and Alyn Smith MEP have sent their warmest congratulations to the Glasgow based company “Windsave” who have recently won a prestigious European business award. They have become the UK winner of European Environment Business Awards in the product category.  They have designed a compact wind turbine for use in private homes and offices which delivers renewable electricity directly into the mains supply.
