£40m funding for Glasgow Fastlink
Wednesday, 05 October 2011

River Clyde, route of FastlinkSandra White MSP for Glasgow Kelvin today welcomed the announcement of the Scottish Government to approve funding of £40m for the Glasgow Fastlink bus scheme.

The high-frequency bus link will run from Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station via Queens Street Station, Central Station, travelling along the north and south banks of the River Clyde via the SECC to the new Southern General Hospital. Journey times will be reduced due to segregated lanes for the bus service.

Sandra White MSP for Glasgow Kelvin said: "This is fantastic news and I very much welcome the Scottish Government’s approval of £40m towards the new bus scheme.

"By linking the Southside with the city centre, the fast link will increase the quality of public transport by enabling residents and tourists to quickly travel from Buchanan Bus Station, Queens Street Station or Central Station to the SECC and the new Southern General Hospital.

"Due to its high frequency and the reduced journey time the bus route will serve as a crucial public transport link for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and will also be an attractive alternative to continued use of the car for commuters which will have an overall positive effect on air quality in Glasgow."
