Ms Sturgeon was commenting as Scotland formally entered the race to host the games today.
Ms Sturgeon said:
"I wish Glasgow the best of luck in bringing the 2014 Commonwealth Games to Scotland.
"Glasgow is a fantastic city and hosting the 2014 Commonwealth
games will be a huge boost to the area, not only in jobs but in
re-development.
"The games will be an opportunity for Scotland's top quality
athletes to be represented at a Scottish level across a wide range of
sports.
"Our Scottish athletes will be fantastic role models for a whole new
