Sturgeon to take to the catwalk for Glasgow charity - Deputy First Minister hosts recycled fashion show at Scottish Parliament
Monday, 26 April 2010

Deputy First Minister Nicola SturgeonParis, Milan, New York, Govan... Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will take on a new role as a catwalk model this week at the first ever fashion show to be held in the Scottish Parliament.

On Wednesday, the Glasgow Govan MSP will join volunteers, aged between 4 and 55, to model designs made from recycled materials by the Govan-based charity, Starter Packs.

Starter Packs, which has been running in Govan for more than 20 years, sources mainly used household goods and redistributes them to households making the transition from homelessness to permanent tenancies. The designs were made entirely from reclaimed and recycled materials.

Ms Sturgeon said: "I'm really looking forward to my first modelling assignment and I'm delighted to be doing it in such a good cause. Starter Packs is a fantastic local charity and their new Magpie's Nest eco-thrift store is a great asset to Govan.

"All of the clothes have been made by local people who have taken part in the Magpie Eco Fashion dressmaking workshops, and some real talent and beautiful designs have emerged. The fashion show is a great way to promote recycling and eco-fashion."
