SNP welcome elderly care report |

Friday, 09 December 2005 |
SNP Holyrood Leader Nicola Sturgeon MSP today renewed the partyâs
commitment to long-term care and welcomed the establishment into a
parliamentary inquiry into the implication of the policy.
Ms Sturgeon said:
âEver since the Scottish Parliament forced the Liberal and Labour
Executive to adopt a policy of free personal care there have been a
number of serious concerns raised about the delivery of this vital
service.
âThe SNP have been at the forefront of calls for action to be taken to
end the disputes over costs and for a commitment towards delivering
enough beds to cope with demand.
âThis report gives the Parliament the opportunity to develop some
joined up thinking on the issue and put serious pressure on the
Executive to put more emphasis on the needs of our older people.
âThis policy is the right one, but we must now ensure that it is
properly delivered. We must not forget the basic commitment to
human decency that inspired the Parliament to deliver free personal
care in the first instance.
âThe interests of older Scots and their families cannot be forgotten.â
