Commenting on the Scottish Executive's decision to impose a 'prospective ministerial certificate' on various categories of information relating to the G8 Summit due to be held at Gleneagles in July, the Deputy Leader of the SNP Nicola Sturgeon MSP said:
"Security and safety should be paramount in organising the G8 Summit.  However, in terms of information to the public there should be a presumption that everything should be open and transparent unless there are good reasons not to be, rather than a presumption of secrecy. The Executive's certificate swings too far towards secrecy.
"For example, it is not at all clear to me how an indication of the global costs of security and policing for the G8 could in any way jeopardise security.Â
"The Executive should give a guarantee now that they will provide full and detailed information on the G8, including the costs of security and policing, once the summit has concluded."
