The new owners of Tennents Brewery in Glasgow's Dennistoun met with two of the city's MSPs about the pending acquisition by C&C of Ireland, the company behind the highly successful Magners cider product.
SNP MSPs Bob Doris and Anne McLaughlin met with Chief Executive Officer, John Dunsmore, and Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Glancey. The workforce are currently in talks with present owners Inbev over staff transfer arrangements ahead of C&C's shareholders approval of the sale.
Both MSPs were keen to open a positive dialogue with C&C at the earliest opportunity and the talks were an excellent initial step.
Of the meeting Bob Doris MSP said: "Our discussions were extremely positive and upbeat. It is clear that C&C are committed to the Tennents brand, as well as the brewing operation in Glasgow.
"They are keen to develop the product and unlock the untapped potential of this iconic Scottish brand. I have said previously that the sale could move Tennents to the next level and I have heard nothing that has altered my view.
"Having met with Diageo to discuss the proposed closure of the Port Dundas site I can honestly say the contrast was remarkable. I was greatly encouraged by the positive attitude of C&C towards the workforce and the city".
Anne McLaughlin MSP added: "Opening up a dialogue with the new owners is vital. They are clearly keen to engage and whilst our discussions could not be too specific at this stage we did look at a number of ideas for the future of C&C and Tennents in Glasgow.
"The Wellpark brewery in our city is core to that future and I have every reason to believe the outlook is bright.
"C&C are proud of the work they currently do in Ireland with Corporate and Social Responsibility in the community and we will work with them to develop this in Glasgow."
