Glasgow MSPs, Anne McLaughlin and Bob Doris, are urging people to support the Caring Christmas Tree scheme in Glasgow this year. Cash raised from the sale of trees will help to raise funds for Impact Arts in Glasgow, a charity that supports vulnerable young people who have either experienced homelessness, are at risk of abuse or who have left school unable to get a job or access further education.
The organisers are keen to point out the environmental advantage of a real christmas tree. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, produce oxygen and are recycleable so the more trees sold, the more that are planted and the better the environmental benefits. Trees can be ordered at www.caringchristmastrees.com or by calling 0845 111 8733, and there are a number of convenient pick-up points throughout the city.
Mr Doris said: “Caring Christmas Trees encapsulates the whole spirit of Christmas. Families can celebrate the festivities with a beautiful real tree, knowing that good local causes will benefit as well as doing their bit for the environment."
Anne Mclaughlin MSP joined her SNP colleague at the Scottish Parliament. She added: “These real trees are so much nicer than the artificial ones. Plastic trees are made from chemicals and are then shipped half way around the world. And they don’t look nearly so good. I am proud to be here today supporting this innovative and environmentally sustainable scheme."
