SNP MSPs Anne McLaughlin and Bob Doris have today hit out at Labour's newest MP Willie Bain. The two Glasgow MSPs accused the MP who was elected on 12 Nov of failing on a key local promise to open a full time constituency office within a month if elected.
The SNP have learned that Willie Bain will in actual fact be opening his constituency office today, one month past the promised deadline.
Commenting on the issue, Glasgow SNP MSP Anne McLaughlin said: "It is an outrage that the people of Glasgow North East have been left without somewhere to go to and seek help from their new Member of Parliament.
"Having an accessible constituency office is one of the most important things a politician can do. It's where people can come and discuss the issues that matter to them.
"It's another demonstration of the contempt that Labour have for the people of Glasgow North East.
"First they delayed the by-election leaving people with NO MP for 6 months. Then they promised this in an attempt to get votes when they clearly had no intention of delivering on it.
"And so the people of Glasgow North East have finally got an MP but for 2 long months have had almost NO access to him.
"It would appear that Willie Bain's "contract" isn't worth the paper that it's written on".
Equally as disappointed, Anne McLaughlin's colleague and Glasgow MSP Bob Doris said: "When I was campaigning during the by-election it was clear that so many people felt let down by the Labour party and as Willie Bain went door-to-door telling the people that he would change all that, he obviously plans to continue doing the same.
"This was a clear election promise to the people of this constituency and they have been found wanting. "I'm sure that the people of Glasgow North East will be keeping a watchful eye on their new MP to make sure that this isn't a case of Mr Bain starting as he means to go on".
