Saturday 3rd May marked the one year anniversary of the historic election which saw the SNP take power for the
first time. To mark the occasion a day of action was held across the Nation. The four Glasgow list MSPs
Bashir Ahmad, Bob Doris, Bill Kidd and Sandra White campaiged in Buchanan Street.
Bob Doris MSP said: "As an SNP MSP I am proud to be celebrating the first anniversary of our new SNP government. Glasgow is moving forward and our city has seen real benefit. Our streets will soon see our share of 1,000 new police officers, our students no longer have to pay a £2,289 tuition fee and we can at last start to pay kinship carers what they are due. All this and a Council Tax freeze too. By the time the Commonwealth Games arrives in 2014, Glasgow will be a transformed city." |

SNP Spring Conference today (Sunday) unanimously supported a resolution expressing concern about the UK Government's Identity and Passport Services (IPS) plans to axe over 100 workers at the Glasgow Passport Office and redirect postal applications services to England.
Commenting after the vote Glasgow MSP Sandra White, who has been campaigning on the issue and spoke in the debate, said: "I welcome this overwhelming support. Over 100 jobs are to be lost in Glasgow and many more throughout the UK as a result of this decision and staff at other centres in the UK are now asking themselves who will be next.
"Many people are concerned that they may end up having to travel to England to have their passports renewed and the IPS is unable to issue any assurances that this will not happen.

Labour MPs in Scotland were today accused of failing to represent their constituents views by voting to thwart attempts to hold an independent inquiry into the Iraq war.
Whilst 12 English Labour MPs rebelled against the Government not one Scottish Labour MP joined them in forcing the government into holding an immediate inquiry.
Sandra White MSP for the Glasgow Region was particularly scathing of Glasgow's Labour MPs.
"The vast majority of people in Glasgow never wanted this war and now want the full facts to be known, for the people of Glasgow this is a betrayal.
"What really annoys people is the fact that the likes of John Robertson, Ann McKechin and particularly Mohammad Sarwar consistently espouse their Anti War feelings and never fail to remind us of the fact that back in 2003 they voted against the Government against the war.

Bob Doris, Sandra White, Bill Kidd and Bashir Ahmad, SNP MSPs for Glasgow were today campaigning in Glasgow University ahead of the stage 3 Parliamentary debate. The Graduate Endowment Bill was published last October and the final vote will be on Thursday. They were also showing their support for the Hardeep Singh Kholi Campaign for the Rectorship of Glasgow University.
Commenting, Bob Doris MSP said: "The SNP have always believed that Education should be free for all and not based on your ability to pay.
"There are nearly 10,000 students who are liable to pay the £2,289 fee and removing that will be a welcome boost to both them and their families.
"Too many of our young people start their adult life snowed under with debt and I hope the Parliament sees sense and gives them, and Scotland, a hand on Thursday." |

Glasgow Labour MPs have been slated for their continuing shameful conduct over Post office closures in Glasgow. It has been revealed that at last Thursday's House of Commons debate on Post Office Restructuring not one Glasgow Labour MP even turned up to represent the concerns of their constituents. This comes on the back of the revelation that despite their very vocal public stance against the closures all Glasgow Labour MPs voted for the closures back in 2002.
Commenting Sandra White MSP said: "We have recently completed a consultation with those who will be affected by the closures and over 99% of the respondents said that it was an essential service for them. |
