SNP Member of The Scottish Parliament, James Dornan, has organised a jobs fayre for young people in his constituency.
Mr Dornan has pulled together employers and, private and public sector agencies including s1 Jobs, Glasgow Housing Association, The Princes Youth Business Trust and ASDA, in a pledge to take direct action to tackle youth unemployment in his own constituency.
The event, which will run from 10:00 until 14:00 on Friday 5 October at Langside College, will also be attended by The Scottish Government’s Minister for Youth Employment Angela Constance MSP.
Mr Dornan said: “Jobs and the economy are by far the biggest issues that constituents to raise with me. The welcome figures this week show that the unemployment rate in Scotland continues to fall, however there is clearly a lot still to be done and I’m determined to do my part to help the people of my constituency.
“There is a particular concern over the long term impact of youth unemployment, we can all remember Thatcher’s lost generation, and I’m determined to do all I can to improve the employment prospects of the young people and to ensure they don’t suffer as previous generations did. This is why I organised the jobs fayre for the young people of my constituency. The fact that the Minister for Youth Employment is attending demonstrates her drive to tackle the problem also.
“I’m delighted to be hosting this event in the new Langside College, one of the major institutions of the Cathcart constituency. And I want to thank Andrew Hadden, the Principal of the College, who was equally as enthusiastic that the college be the host venue.
“The response that I had from businesses and agencies was tremendous and showed that they are looking to take on the most talented of Scotland’s young people, and with phenomenal exam results for Glasgow students at the highest they’ve ever been, that talent pool is growing and growing; Glasgow really is the place to invest and do business and hopefully the jobs fayre will ensure that the young people of Cathcart benefit from it too.
