James Dornan MSP

James Dornan MSP

James lives in the Cathcart Constituency and has stayed there most of his life. He joined Glasgow City Council in May 2007 as the elected Member representing the SNP in the new Langside Ward. He was elected as the Leader of the Opposition in Glasgow City Council.

He was the SNP candidate for Ayr Constituency in 2003, and for Glasgow South West in 2005 Westminster elections and was elected as MSP for Glasgow Cathcart in the 2011 Holyrood Elections.

Before becoming a councillor James worked for Stewart Maxwell MSP and during this time was described as a 'key player at the vanguard in the battle to bring about a smoking ban'.

In his 'spare' time, James lists watching football, attending theatre, reading and spending time with his grandchildren among his hobbies.

Dornan seeks a change of culture for Glasgow's libraries

Dennistoun LibraryMSP for Glasgow Cathcart MSP, James Dornan, has called for a change of culture in Glasgow’s libraries.

On the day that The Scottish Parliament passes a bill on the National Library of Scotland, the MSP has stressed that Glasgow city council must change its approach to the city’s libraries, or face them dying out all together.

James Dornan MSPCity Council must oversee immediate recount

SNP MSP James Dornan is calling on Glasgow City Council to recount ballots as soon as possible after it emerged 380 ballots for the Langside Ward were overlooked.

Mr Dornan, who was an election agent for the Langside ward, said it was “extremely disappointing” that ballots which were scanned were not included in the count and demanded an immediate explanation from Glasgow City Council.

Dornan celebrates achievement of local engineering firm

Glasgow Cathcart MSP James Dornan has today laid down a Parliamentary motion congratulating Castlemilk based Castle Precision Engineering Systems on being awarded the contract to build the 90kg solid aluminium wheels on the Bloodhound Supersonic Car.

The Bloodhound Project aims to build a supersonic car that will attempt to break the land speed record and reach an astonishing speed of 1,000 miles per hour. Chosen to engineer the wheels on the supersonic car is Castle Precision Engineering Systems, a prestigious engineering firm which was awarded the 2010 Institution of Mechanical Engineers Manufacturer of the Year awards.

Dornan welcomes funding boost for Glasgow veterans

James Dornan MSPCathcart MSP James Dornan has today welcomed the announcement of an additional £80,000 of funding across Scotland from the Scottish Veterans Fund of which £5,732 will go to Glasgow’s Helping Heroes by laying down a motion in the Scottish Parliament.

Glasgow’s Helping Heroes was established in 2010 as an organisation that aims to provide information on access to and co-ordination of support across a wide range of areas including health, housing, social care, employability and financial services,  for service personnel and their families and carers.
