Bob Doris, MSP for Glasgow, today praised the work being done by Maryhill based charity Scotland's Buddhist Vihara, and commended the community work that it also does in Glasgow, on the day Sports Minister, Stewart Maxwell officially opened a project of theirs for Sri Lankan tsunami orphans which has benefited from £85,000 in Scottish Government funding.
Commenting Bob said: "I recently met with some of the 'devotees' who give their personal time and money to ensuring that the charity can help not only the tragic victims of the Tsunami, but also many people here in Glasgow.
"They spoke of the great work that the Venerable Rewatha, a Buddhist monk who has taken a vow of poverty and is based in Maryhill does in the local community.
"From providing spiritual guidance to devotees and helping many individuals who suffer from MS or are recovering drug addicts the Venerable Rewatha is an inspiration to us all.
"I am delighted the Scottish Government is supporting a charity that does a great deal of invaluable work both here in Glasgow and in Sri Lanka."
