The successful Scottish Government's boiler scrappage scheme has closed within 36 hours of opening. The stunning success of the scheme, which saw 4,600 householders claim £400 vouchers towards the cost of replacing an inefficient boiler with more environmentally friendly models, has led to fresh claims for the fossil fuel levy , worth £180million, to be returned to Scotland as quickly as possible. Bob Doris MSP for Glasgow has urged the UK Government to return the £180million of Scotland's cash which could fund similar schemes.

Mr Doris, an SNP MSP for Glasgow, said: "The boiler scrappage scheme has been an amazing success. It is environmentally friendly and will also save households hundreds of pounds on heating bills each year.  This is precisely the kind of scheme that the £180m fossil fuel levy ,cash that the last UK Labour Government denied to Scotland, could be used for.

"The new UK Government must move quickly and give Scotland the money back that is rightly ours. It would promote carbon reduction, energy efficiency and lower fuel bills. What is more it would be a real boost to the economy and help keep small firms  who install the heating systems in business. The new UK Government are currently considering SNP representations to have the money returned. I hope the fantastic success of the Scottish Government scheme will be an added incentive for the UK Government to give Scotland the cash that is ours anyway."
