Scottish Government programme 'good for Glasgow'
Wednesday, 07 September 2011

Bob Doris MSPBob Doris, SNP MSP for Glasgow Region, has today welcomed the Scottish Government's Programme for Government, which focuses on jobs and economic recovery.

Mr Doris said: "Alex Salmond's announcements today mark out jobs as the SNP Government's top priority.

"We will deliver 25,000 modern apprenticeships every year of this parliament and will provide a learning or training place for all 16 to 19 year olds. Both our economy and our young people need this investment to secure future prosperity.

"Our Capital Investment programme will see the investment of a £400 million housing budget this year which is estimated to support over 15,000 jobs across the country.

"Small businesses are the backbone of the Glasgow economy and the continuance of the small business bonus scheme will be welcomed across the business community.

"Crime figures released this week show that recorded crime is at its lowest for 35 years. It is no co-incidence that crime is coming down as police numbers increase under the SNP. Our intention is to create a single police and a single fire service so we can direct maximum resources to the frontline.

"We were re-elected in May - becoming the dominant party in Glasgow for the first time ever - because our priorities chimed with the priorities of the people of Glasgow. Today we have reaffirmed our commitment to these priorities."
