Scottish Government extends 'Adopt an Apprentice'
Monday, 11 January 2010

Bob Doris calls on Glasgow firms to tap into £1000 funding

A new initiative which will see companies receive a £1000 incentive for taking on a new apprentice has been warmly welcomed by Glasgow Scottish National Party MSP Bob Doris. The Scottish Government is funding the £4million scheme which will encourage vital job creation in Glasgow as many companies look ahead to economic recovery. This is the latest development in a long line of initiatives under ScotAction, the Scottish Government's skills support package for leading Scotland out of recession and back to prosperity.

Mr Doris said today: "Glasgow businesses need to avail of this support now. I would urge any firm considering apprenticeships as part of their own short to medium term growth plans to contact Skills Development Scotland on 0808 100 8095 or to visit here.

"I believe that apprenticeships are key to Glasgow's economic success. We need to make it easier for companies in Glasgow to survive and to thrive. And we need to support training initiatives that equip Glasgow's workforce with the skills that are relevant to the needs of the City's economy.

“The Scottish Government is investing record sums in skills training and support for Scottish businesses, providing practical assistance where it is going to have the best results. Supporting job creation is my number one priority for the months ahead and I am proud to see the SNP Government continue to prioritise economic recovery."
