Welcoming the news that police numbers in Scotland are now at a record high SNP MSP Bob Doris said: "Today's news that police numbers have hit a record high will be welcomed in communities across Scotland.
"As the new recruits funded by the Scottish Government make their way from Tulliallan onto our streets people across Scotland will see the SNP delivering on our commitment to train 1000 extra police officers over the next four years. I know the extra 68 officers already in Strathclyde will be welcomed by communities across the region.
"With Labour failing to offer any additional police officers at the last election and both Labour and the Lib Dems failing to back the funding for these extra officers it is clear that only the SNP can be trusted to put more bobbies on the beat.
"Without the efforts of the SNP to increase police numbers there would be even fewer officers on our streets than there were when Labour left office - this is a real success for the SNP Government and Scotland's police forces."
