Scottish National Party MSP for Glasgow, Bob Doris, has teamed up with Breast Cancer Campaign to help raise awareness of its forthcoming fundraising event, "wear it pink" day. It is estimated that over 38,000 women and 150 men in Scotland are currently diagnosed with breast cancer. Friday 29 October 2010 will be official "wear it pink" day and Bob Doris is urging workplaces, schools and colleges across Glasgow to encourage people to wear a pink item to show their support. In 2009, over one million people participated in the event.
The Glasgow MSP commented: “Glasgow has always been a generous giver and I fully expect offices throughout the city to be doing their bit. So many people’s lives are turned upside-down by breast cancer and I think it means a lot to those affected to see the strength of support out there. The Breast Cancer Campaign will be asking participants to donate just 2 pounds to the fund.
“The money raised is always put to good use. Research into cancer is expensive but I have every faith it will one day lead to a cure. Breast Cancer Campaign are to be commended for their determination in that pursuit.
