MSP promotes family art competition
Friday, 31 July 2009

Glasgow SNP MSP, Bob Doris, has today called on local families to learn together by taking part in a competition being run by Scotland's Learning Partnership in the run up to Family Learning Week (from 27 September).

The competition is art based and encourages two people from different generations in a family to draw two pictures, one each or two jointly under the theme 'My Creative Family'. The closing date is Friday 18th of September and families can get more information on both the competition and the Learning Week by calling 0800 100900.

Mr Doris has also submitted a parliamentary motion to help promote both the competition and the Learning Week. Of the competition Mr Doris said:

"This is a great competition and during the summer holiday is an ideal time for families to get together and do some joint activities. Whether it's parents and their children or kids with aunties or grandparents, this is something everyone can take part in.

"This is a fun competition and the idea behind it is extremely worthwhile. Learning is a life long journey for us all and family learning activities can help greatly in encouraging each other to learn new skills. I hope many families will call the freephone number and get involved."

Note:

Parliamentary Motion lodged by Bob Doris MSP:

S3M-04635: My Creative Family and Adult Learning Week
That the Parliament welcomes Family Learning Week, to be held from 27 September until 3 October 2009 by Scotland's Learning Partnership, and encourages families to enter the My Creative Family art competition currently being held by the Learning Partnership in the build up to the week; notes that the competition encourages two members of the same family to do either a drawing each or two together under the theme My Creative Family, and believes that such activities that promote whole family learning and learning as a lifelong pursuit should be supported and encouraged.
