SNP MSP for Glasgow, Bob Doris, will today attend a press conference held by the 'Save Our Schools' campaign at the site of the ongoing peaceful occupation protest of both St Gregory's and Wyndford schools in Glasgow's Maryhill. Mr Doris who will speak in support of the parents this morning (Tuesday) said:

"The ongoing peaceful occupation of both St Gregory's and Wyndford schools demonstrates the strength of opinion in the local community.

"Parents tell me that Council officials have now spoken to them informally about alternatives to closure and I find this encouraging.

"That this dialogue is taking place at all is a step in the right direction and I hope this means that a vote to save both schools at the full council meeting on the 23rd may be a possibility. If the Council wish to enter into discussions at a later date about schooling in the Wyndford I hope they wait until after the summer term to provide families with the stability they need, and that the Council commits to a lengthy consultation with parents and the community before any alternative proposals emerge."

"The parents from other threatened schools and nurseries that are attending today's press conference deserve a similar reprieve.

"Councillors of all parties have an opportunity to gain the respect of the electorate by voting to save schools and nurseries. I hope they take it."
