Labour in a spin over unholy alliance with the Tories
Labour is in chaos at its conference as Ed Miliband arrogantly asserted Labour's "right" to run Scotland, the party split further over working with the Tories to oppose the ambitions of the Scottish people and the search for a credible leadership candidate continues.
Ed Milliband's insistence he will not rest until Labour is "back where it should be, running Scotland" show a Labour have still to learn from the overwhelming support for the SNP declared in May's Scottish elections.
His comments were followed this morning by further splits in the No campaign against independence - while Ed Miliband said that his party would work alongside the Tories the rest of the Labour party is in chaos with Jim Murphy refusing and Douglas Alexander and Ann McKechin dodging the question.
Bob Doris, SNP MSP for Glasgow, said: "Ed Milliband must learn that it is the voters who decide who should run Scotland not the Labour party. This kind of arrogance shows Labour heave learnt nothing from the overwhelming endorsement of the SNP as the party voters want to govern Scotland in May's elections.
"Scottish Labour must be hanging their heads in shame in Liverpool. The party is a mess, the leadership is a mess and now even their opposition to independence is a mess.
"If the Unionist parties are incapable of agreeing and working with each other, they can't expect the people of Scotland to agree with them in the referendum campaign."
Commenting on the decision to change the role of leader in Scotland Mr Doris added:
"The SNP won the trust and respect of the people of Scotland as the party of possibility for Scotland, delivering on our commitments, focussing on jobs and the economy and supporting households through tough times.
"Whether Iain Gray was leader in the parliament or leader in the party it was the lack of vision, lack of trust and lack of competence that held Labour back.
"With a desperate hunt on at the Labour conference for a serious contender for the leadership and no new ideas coming from any of the current candidates Labour have a long way to go to become the responsible opposition they were elected to be."
Notes:
1. At the Scottish reception at Labour Conference Ed Miliband said:" I will not rest until we have won back every seat that we lost and won more seats back from the SNP.
"I will not rest until not only am I Prime Minister in Number 10 Downing Street, but we are back where we should be - running Scotland, with a Scottish Government led by the Labour Party.
2. Tweeting from Labour Conference "TimReidBBC Tim Reid Some senior Scot Lab figures still hoping for "big hitter" to enter race for Scottish leader - seem unconvinced by 3 names so far #lab11"
