Labour council confused by unpopularity
Friday, 08 May 2009

Glasgow City Council has started research into the public's views of public consultations. Following a series of bad decisions, from developing Pollok Country Park as an adventure playground to decimating Glasgow's school estate through the closure of 20 schools and nurseries, the Labour run City Council are now having to conduct research to find out why their decisions spark such fury into the heart of communities across Glasgow.

The SNP's Bob Doris MSP hit out: "Let us get to the root of the problem. The procedure of public consultations might need to be tightened up, but even at present there is a moral obligation on the part of all elected politicians to listen to the views of citizens.

"We are now having a consultation on consultations. The Labour Council just voted to close 20 schools and nurseries despite 96% of 7,200 respondents to a consultation telling them in no uncertain terms that the closures would be a disaster. What is it they don't get?

"No amount of consulting will ever make Labour listen. The ballot box for the European elections on 4th June will be the next real consultation with the people of Glasgow. I look forward to watching Labour pay the price for their arrogance in this city."
