Glasgow SNP MSP Bob Doris has welcomed reports that Glasgow City Council are planning to introduce a Council Tax freeze.
Today's Evening Times reports a Glasgow Labour Councillor saying "God Bless" the SNP Government.
Speaking in Glasgow Mr Doris said: "I am delighted that the ruling group on Glasgow City Council has decided to back a Council Tax freeze for our city.
"This clearly demonstrates the new historic relationship between the Scottish Government and Scotland's Local Authorities.
"It also means that Glasgow City Council will be able to access their share of an extra £70 million being made available by the Scottish Government.
"As an SNP MSP for Glasgow I am happy to agree with Glasgow Labour when they say 'God bless' the SNP Government"
"With Councils being allowed to keep their efficiency savings and a significant reduction in the bureaucratic and financial handcuffs of ring fencing we are beginning to see the renaissance of local government.
"Of course this all depends on Parliament approving our budget.
"Labour will pay a heavy price if they derail this process. If Labour at Holyrood vote down the Government's budget the council tax freeze could become a 22% council tax rise."
The Stage 3 vote on the Scottish Government's budget takes place Wednesday 6th November. |
