Glasgow's Good Morning project visits Holyrood
Friday, 25 September 2009

Good Morning Glasgow in the Holyrood debating chamberGlasgow MSP Bob Doris invited participants of the Glasgow Good Morning Project to the Scottish Parliament on Thursday. The project is based at Ardoch House in Possil and provides a 'friend on a phone' service to nearly 400  elderly clients.

Good Morning Glasgow provides its participants with a friendly  call each morning, ensuring  a regular point of contact for everyone. It is a hugely successful project which makes sure that those who may otherwise may feel isolated or vulnerable remain part of a wider community.

Good Morning Glasgow in the Holyrood debating chamber Bob, a firm supporter of Good Morning Glasgow, visited the project a few months ago and extended an invite to the Scottish Parliament. The trip on Thursday was the first chance for most of the group to see the Scottish Parliament for themselves and they were thrilled to get the opportunity to get access to the floor of the chamber.

Commenting on the visit and the work of the project in general the SNP MSP for Glasgow said: "I visited Good Morning Glasgow earlier in the year and I was very impressed by both the commitment of staff and the affection that the elderly participants held the Project in. Good Morning Glasgow is clearly more than a telephone service and the positive community spirit that has been fostered is excellent. When I heard that they organised days out I was keen to help everyone see Scotland's Parliament.

"When we were on the floor of the debating chamber we had a chat about how the Scottish Parliament worked and I was impressed by everyone's knowledge. In particular my name sake, Bob, (pictured behind Jim Collins in his wheelchair) got most of the questions I asked right. It was great afternoon and I look forward to meeting up with everyone again."
