Gaia Wind opens at Port Dundas
Monday, 07 March 2011

Bob DorisGaia-Wind, a company that manufactures small wind turbines, has today officially opened a new £5million production plant at Port Dundas in Glasgow with the creation of around 30 high value jobs. The company also plans to create another 50 jobs over the next few years. The plant will produce around 250 turbines in 2011, increasing production to 2,000 a year. Today's official opening was attended by Jim Mather MSP, Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism and Glasgow SNP MSP Bob Doris.

Commenting at the opening in Port Dundas today, Mr Doris said: "I am delighted that Gaia Wind have managed to bring their site at Port Dundas into operation in such a short period of time. There have been nearly 30 high skill jobs already created with another 50 hopefully in the next few years.

"Such partnership work between the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise and Gaia is exactly what is needed to breathe life into an area hit badly by Diageo's closure of the 200 year old Port Dundas Distillery. Renewable jobs are vital to both our economy and our environment and it is wonderful  to see north Glasgow reaping early rewards in Scotland's renewables revolution."
