Glasgow MSP Bob Doris today welcomed the announcement from Sports Minister Stewart Maxwell on the future of Sport Scotland.
The HQ of Sport Scotland will be transferred to Glasgow with a regional Sport Scotland hub also being set up in the city.
Mr Doris said: "This is a great boost for Glasgow in the run up to the Commonwealth Games.
"The plans to merge Sport Scotland with the Scottish Institute of Sport will help deliver the link between sport at the grassroots and the elite athletes we need for success at the Commonwealth Games.
"The relocation of the Sport Scotland Headquarters to the city is a symbol of this Governments commitment to the Commonwealth Games.
"I hope that those who have been quick to criticise in the past, will welcome todays announcement as a real step forward for sport in Scotland."
