Bob Doris, Scottish National Party MSP for Glasgow, has welcomed the publication of the Cancer waiting time statistics for October to December 2008 which shows NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde exceeding the national target for treating urgent referral within 62 days. The figures show that NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde treated 95.3% of Cancer patients within the 62 days target.
Mr Doris said: "These statistics show that NHS greater Glasgow and Clyde is meeting the national target in treating urgent referral within 62 days and performing above the national average.
"The doctors, nurses and staff of our NHS should take pride in this achievement, a major step forward in tackling one of the Scotland big three killers."
Mr Doris continued: "We need to continue to build upon this hard work, which is why the Scottish Government announced in March £20 million for equipment to tackle cancer. These statistics and this investment show that the SNP is delivering on its promise for a healthier Scotland."
