Doris hails SNP's £31m extra housing investment
Thursday, 15 April 2010

Glasgow MSP Bob Doris has welcomed news of an extra £31m investment in social housing by the SNP Government. Scottish Government Finance Secretary John Swinney has allocated an additional £31 million to build even more affordable homes. The SNP Government’s investment in social housing now stands at an impressive total of £1.71 billion over three years.

SNP MSP for Glasgow Bob Doris, a member of the Scottish Parliament's Local Government and Communities Committee, said: “Labour built just 6 council houses in all their years in coallition with the Lib Dems at Holyrood. With this extra cash, the SNP Government will have built 21,500.

“The news will be welcomed by the construction sector in this difficult period. Jobs and homes are at the top of people’s priorities right now.

“The phoney war between Tory and Labour parties in this general election, between how much they would waste on the Trident replacement or ID cards, is completely irrelevant.

“Modern social housing is desperately needed after a generation of Labour and Tory neglect. On May 6th we need a strong team of SNP MPs at Westminster to protect future Scottish budgets and the ability of our SNP Government to invest further in housing and other people’s priorities.

“This is a Government that has its priorities in the right order.
