Bonus scheme boost for Glasgow businesses
Monday, 20 April 2009
SNP MSP Bob Doris today joined John Swinney, the Cabinet Secretary for Finance, in welcoming the success in Glasgow of the Small Business Bonus Scheme. According to the Scottish Government, 4,713 business properties in Glasgow benefit from the Small Business Bonus. And across Scotland cuts in business rates are benefiting 80 per cent of eligible small businesses, according to new figures available today.

Finance and Sustainable Growth Secretary John Swinney said: "These figures show the scale of the Scottish Government's commitment to help Scotland's small businesses - the beating heart of our economy.

"From the start of this month, the scheme was introduced in full, meaning tens of thousands of small businesses will pay no rates at all.

Bob Doris, Member of Scottish Parliament for Glasgow added his support and commented specifically on Glasgow

"The Small Business Bonus Scheme is crucial to our economic recovery and support of small businesses in Glasgow through these ongoing tough economic times.

"Businesses are being hit hard. I think it is even more important than ever that we reach out to these small businesses and continue to support them and the Small Business Bonus Scheme has been crucial in providing that support.  I want everyone that can to be able to take advantage of this scheme and help their businesses keep their doors open. After all these small businesses are vital employers across the city."
