Bob Doris SNP List MSP for Glasgow has warmly welcomed the bid by Glasgow for the UNESCO City of Music Award.
"The love affair that Glasgow has for all things musical is legendary.
"You'd be hard put to think of a musical style that you couldn't access in Glasgow.
"From an impromptu rendition of Engelbert Humperdink on a Saturday night at a city bus stop to vibrant Bangra and Afro Caribbean influences, Glasgow is alive with music.
"Be it The Sensational Alex Harvey Band or Jimmy Smith still caressing the snare drum at the Three Judges on a Sunday afternoon Glasgow's musical tradition should be celebrated.
"I believe UNESCO recognition would be both a fitting tribute and wonderful opportunity for Glasgow and of course I back it 100%."
