SNP MSP Bob Doris has today welcomed the news that the Scottish Government is to invest an
additional £7 million into the Central Heating programme to ensure all vulnerable pensioners
are provided with central heating and hot water this winter.
Commenting on the news Glasgow MSP Bob Doris said: "As winter sets in it is vital that we look after the most vulnerable in our society.
"I have quite a few constituents in Glasgow who have been in contact on this very issue and I know from experience how cold a Glasgow tenement can be in December.
"This additional money is a positive investment from the Scottish Government and will be warmly welcomed across the city.
"Scottish Gas was clearly struggling to meet its commitments under the terms set up for it by the previous government but hopefully this action will help plug that hole.
"To my mind it is still a scandal that we have fuel poverty in an energy rich nation and that is something for which previous governments must take responsibility.
"This SNP Government however is ensuring that all those who need central heating this winter, particularly our more vulnerable pensioners, will have central heating.
"Nicola Sturgeons announcement is good news and it's now up to Scottish Gas to get those systems fitted." |
